As long as anyone can remember the Shad Planking has taken place on the 3rd Wednesday in April. And as long as anyone can remember people have been asking for the event to be moved. Everyone agrees that the annual Shad Planking is always fun, but many people just can’t attend on a Wednesday.
This is why the Wakefield Ruritans, the nonprofit hosts of the event who serve their community through “fellowship, goodwill, and community service,” decided to change the day of this amazing and worthwhile Virginia tradition. Simply put, this festival exists to enrich and strengthen the local rural community, and the more people who can attend the better off the community will be.
The day of the week has changed, but the grand traditions of the event remain the same: shad, sign wars, and speech-making. Join us FRIDAY, April 22, for a day of wine, good food, and music from spectacular regional acts Jackson Ward and Sportsbar Rockstar. The Shad Planking is the premier opportunity for Virginians of all political stripes to come together for a day of fellowship and friendship.
